A new era for a new year.

Hi all. Welcome to PSco - or PieInTheSky.Co - a new twist on a company that turns 22 actual years old in 2024! It’s hard for me to believe I’ve been a freelance designer for that long. I mean, it’s really the longest I’ve done anything, to be honest :) But thanks to God and the path He’s carved out for me, I could not imagine a better way to spend my time than designing beautiful things for other businesses, both large and small. What better way to honor that journey than thru a look back, right? So here we go.

PSco actually started in late 2001 after a major shift occurred in my life. As I began to think about leaving the corporate journey I’d been on for many years, I was inspired to do a complete turnaround in many areas of life - a 180 so to speak - and One8y Creative was born. Even though the spelling was weird and the ‘design’ was certainly just a riff on a trendy font at the time, there was a nugget of truth in it. Everything that I had known before about myself and my abilities as a creative were about to be challenged. And it was hard. And good.

Then, in about 2010, the urge to change things up struck again. This time, I wanted to reinvent myself as a dreamer (seriously, I’ve ALWAYS been a dreamer, so this was not actually a new thought). I became enthralled in the idea of a company built around ‘pie in the sky’ dreams. And of course, because I love the nostalgia of pie, I designed a logo with a cherry on top. This logo served me well up until 2019 or so. By then, I was working with some rather large clients, and building websites in addition to print design, my old mainstay. These were the golden years of PSco, actually, and again - it was both hard and good.

By 2019, social media began to be more ‘my thing’ and I decided to design a badge that was simpler and easier to use on social channels. The PSco ‘bird’ was born, and the logo worked well for the things I needed it to do. I created handmade mailers to send out and show off the new brand, and immediately began working almost solely with larger corporate clients. It was exhilarating, and to be honest, also exhausting. I’m grateful for every single season I’ve had as a designer, but by 2023, I realized that I had a smaller mission and passion in mind. Hard. And good.

Enter this new era of PSco, a company with a mission to help SMALL businesses grow into themselves. I’ve done my best in the last couple of years to create more of an organic handmade feel to the work I do. I’ve enjoyed hand stamping bags and making patches for hats, and labels for jars of homemade things for many, many clients. I love the process of helping small business come to life. I love that so many people want to do exactly what I’ve been led to do - leave a corporate life that no longer fits them. To work hard and create something new. To stay true to oneself and follow the path God has for them. To do all the things, all the good things that make our careers meaningful to those we serve.

None of this is ‘easy,’ by the way. Starting or maintaining a business today IS hard work. It’s challenging to ebb and flow with market demands and consumer wants and likes. But some things never change, like authentic and useful brands that honor creativity and God-given purpose. I’m happy that I get to play a part in that kind of transformative change as we all move forward in 2024.

So PS. If you’re here for the first time, welcome. If you’ve always been around, thank you. Let’s make something good together.
